I'm finding...

Word of God Speak” by MercyMe is a song I have turned to many times over the course of the last year. The words to the song are:

I’m finding myself at a loss for words, and the funny thing is its okay.

The last thing I need is to be heard, but to hear what You would say.

Word of God speak, would you pour down like rain.

Washing my eyes to see Your majesty.

To be still and know, that You’re in this place,

please let me stay and rest in Your holiness.

Word of God speak.

I’m finding myself in the midst of You.

Beyond the music, beyond the noise.

All that I need is to be with You, and in the quiet hear Your voice.

Word of God speak.

Would you pour down like rain, washing my eyes to see,

Your majesty.

To be still and know that You’re in this place,

please let me stay and rest, In Your holiness.

I’m finding myself at a loss for words and the funny thing is it’s okay.

I have been at a loss for words recently during the civil unrest of Minnesota and our country. I want to ‘check out’ at times because I do not want to deal with one more day of heartache. There is a place I go on my bike when the weather is nice and when I arrive there it is the most peaceful area with only the sound of nature to invade my thoughts. As someone who gets energy from being with and around people it is probably strange for those who know me to know I like peace and quiet. My life, our lives, have been anything BUT quiet the last year. Political and social unrest have taken the place of quiet. I am not sure about you but I felt a slight return to quiet the afternoon of Tuesday, April 20 when I heard the verdict read in the Derrick Chauvin trial. But there is still noise, noise that we need to hear because there are still others to be held accountable for the unfortunate killings of George Floyd and Daunte Wright. In the meantime I will continue to take my bike rides to that place of peace as the way in which I can find a place of peace in my life. And while I continue to have days where I am at a loss for words I will not let the noise overcome me. It is my hope that you have a place of peace that you can go to when you just need to get away from the noise.

Open Hands Midway continues to hold our meal and food programs in a physically distanced manner. Meals are still take out only. Food Shelf service is prepackaged bags only. I know the day will come, and I hope soon, that we can transition back to the way we used to do things. But without knowing who has been vaccinated or what another person’s health situation is, I am not willing to put my volunteers or myself at risk. I for one am not ready to sit in a close setting with many I have no idea their vaccination or health status. So we will just take it one day at a time for now.

Our golf committee is diligently working on planning for our 6th Annual Golf & Dinner fundraiser. It is our hope that the COVID-19 situation does not impact our event this year. I would like to make a push for our silent auction, a new portion of the event this year. We are seeking the help of our faithful stakeholders in helping us to get silent auction items. Maybe you have season tickets to a local sports team and would be willing to auction some tickets. Maybe you have a business and could provide a gift card. Think about asking a local wine shop, local restaurant, a hotel, campground, theatre, outdoor adventure company. The list and possibilities are endless. If you have an item you think would make a great auction item please contact me at kay@openhandsmidway.org to discuss it. We welcome ALL ideas and suggestions.

Thank you everyone for making Open Hands Midway such a great organization to be associated with. We hope 2021 is a year of good noise to open our eyes, ears and hearts to the changes and surprises coming our way, just sayin'...
