As the summer has now turned to fall, the season for outdoor biking is coming to a close. How much longer I can hit the trails remains to be seen. The exciting thing is that when I began the year I had no idea that I would bike 3,800 miles (see photo below). Since this picture was taken I have now surpassed 4,000 miles! Last year I rode 3,141 miles and this year I simply wanted to match that. Well I blew by that on September 9! There have been flat tires, going around 'TRAIL CLOSED' signage, getting lost on rides, a broken spoke just the other day, having to carry my bike through mucky slippery mud along the Mississippi River, unexpected rains, and more. But as an avid bike rider it was, and is, the most enjoyable thing I can think of to do. I am addicted, just sayin'...
Open Hands Midway is excited to be hosting our 1st Annual Community Night of Light - Feeding Our Neighbors in Need' event. After seven years of hosting a golf and dinner fundraiser the time came to try something new. It is our hope that this event will draw more interest as you do not have to be a golfer to take part in the fun. While we cannot predict the weather, we still hope many people will come and enjoy hot cocoa, cookies and the sight of the big pine tree being light up. Mark your calendar, dress for the weather and join us at 6:00 pm on Friday, December 1.
Next month, on Thursday, November 17, 2023 to be exact, Open Hands Midway will once again take part in Give to the Max day. This day is all about supporting your favorite charity with a financial contribution to help them do what they do. Please mark your calendar for November 17 and watch our website, Facebook page and our e-newsletter for more information as the day draws near. A special challenge match has been offered by our friends at Bell Lumber & Pole Company to match. As you plan for this day of giving, know that any amount of new, increased, or re-engaged giving you would choose to make, up to $12,500.00, have double the impact, as Bell Lumber & Pole will match it dollar for dollar! If that does not inspire you to give I do not know what would, just sayin'...
